Viralheat Launches the Best New App for Social Media

While traveling last week, I sat next to a woman who had spent the night sleeping in the Vegas airport, courtesy of her airline. Needless to say, she had many choice words to say about the airline and its customer service. Twenty years ago, her complaints would have stopped at the ears of her family, friends, and a few passersby. Today, through Facebook and Twitter, her experience and voice can be heard around the world in minutes, and its message can hurt a brand for much longer.

Enter the Viralheat iPhone app.

Designed and built by Log(n), the app allows companies to gauge what their customers are saying and respond anytime, anywhere. An extension of Viralheat’s popular desktop app,  the iPhone app has the all-star features that have allowed Viralheat to become the chosen solution for more than 25,000 brand and community managers—prompting Forbes to call it the best new app for social media.

Don’t believe the hype? Try it out for yourself! The Viralheat iPhone app is available now on the App Store.

Dance, Dance, Dance: MOX Taps Into EDM Fanbase with 24/7 Mobile Feed

Online video consumption patterns are shifting from searching and viewing short three-four minute clips to a longer, effortless, and immersive experience offered by TV.  As Josh Constine of TechCrunch writes, “[a] lean-back, TV-like experience on the Internet is the future of television.”

Enter MOX.

MOX features a TV-calibre 24/7 curated video stream and a deep archive of content for users to discover and share EDM or electronic dance music. MOX brings the latest dance music videos, news, interviews, festival coverage, concerts, studio sessions, and original episodic programming to fans on any connected device. The ability to enjoy a lean-back experience coupled with the flexibility to discover content that fits your mood gives MOX an edge over radio and on-demand streaming.

Log(n) worked closely with the MOX team to create their mobile web interface using some of the latest web technologies. Launched just last week, MOX is currently in beta and is already receiving stellar reviews, like this one from TechCrunch. We’re certain there will be more good things in weeks ahead.

MessageMe: Faster, Smarter, Richer Messaging for Android and iOS

Chances are, when given the choice between calling friends or sending them a text message, most of us will opt for the latter. A survey from Pew’s Internet and American Life Project found that Milennials send on average 3,200 texts per month, which is why MessageMe, a new app for Android and iOS, is sure to tip the scales even further.

Spinning the traditional messaging app on its head, MessageMe makes it easy to share, connect, and collaborate through an arsenal of media, including: photos, videos, music, audio recordings, location, and “doodles”—drawings created through a built-in whiteboard so you can create on the fly, or mark up content shared by a friend.

Perhaps the biggest draws of MessageMe are under the hood. The app uses push notifications instead of SMS, allowing for unlimited and free chatting over WiFi, 3G, EDGE, or LTE. And by using persistent authentication, moving from one device to another means the conversation can continue anytime, and anywhere. Lastly, and this is where the founders’ social gaming background comes into play, the app matches a device’s address book against the MessageMe database so as soon as a contact signs up, you’ll get an alert. This, in combination with an effective use of Facebook’s viral channels makes it easy for users to connect and share with their friends—and for MessageMe to grow.

The Log(n) team is proud to have worked with MessageMe to build the Android Application.

SongBooth—The Next YouTube?

The internet and rise of social networks has forever changed the face of the music industry. But the past few years have just scratched the surface. There’s still a lot more talent to be discovered, and the next wave of musical sensations will come from apps like SongBooth.

Is Wine Behind the Curve?

The wine industry has finally arrived, albeit fashionably late, to the tech happy hour. Alas, now phones and tablets will be ubiquitous in yet another sector we thought immune to tech’s allure. For decades, wineries have been run by self-professed luddites—vintners who care more about measuring brix than monitoring SEO. But today, a new crop of pioneers have realized tradition can be bad for business. And with Yankee Group Global projecting that mobile transactions will bring in US$241 billion in 2011 and more than 1 trillion by 2015, it’s high-time others in the wine industry jump on board.

Within the four apps that are proving useful to customers (and bottom lines), the common thread is the filter.

Blush helps you find the perfect wine for any social situation or taste preference (burnt leather, anyone?)

Looking for a wine that will compliment that truffle oil you bought? Hello Vino can help, and after you’ve found that wine you can save it to a list of favorites.

Remember that awesome malbec at dinner on Saturday? Me neither. With Vivino’s wine-label recognizer, our phones ensure we’ll never forget.

And Wine.com’s library of tasting notes is ripe for the budding sommelier and collector alike.

But despite the usefulness of these apps, what’s missing is a way to purchase wines simply. As we’ve seen it do for other industries, social media, gamification, and mobile commerce can expand the market for wine at a much quicker rate than traditional marketing channels. And yet wine lags behind other consumer goods companies in digital marketing spending. Adding only 4% more to current branding budgets allows wineries to create compelling interactive experiences for their customers.

In our dream world, the perfect wine app:

  • helps us find the perfect wine, right when we need it
  • educates us on why that wine is perfect
  • offers us discounts
  • invites us to releases, tasting parties, meetups, etc.
  • allows us to grow our wine collection easily

A Year in Review

As we’re in the process of writing up our goals for 2013,  it’s been fun to look back at everything 2012 has brought Log(n). In the spirit of end-of-year lists, here are our top highlights from 2012:

1. A New Design Studio
Seeing the rapid success of our mobile and web development teams, we knew we needed an equally strong design shop to bring our service offerings to a full suite. Led by the brilliant and talented Loc Ngo, our new and mighty design team helps clients define their brands, create memorable web and mobile experiences, and sprinkle the world with beauty. And they’re very friendly and awesome to work with—just look at those faces!

What's that saying—"beauty begets beauty"?

2. A New Office for Our Growing Team

With a new design team to think of, we realized it was time for more space (apparently maintenance closets have poor circulation). Our new office is still in the Financial District of SF, albeit with more space to accommodate our our ever-expanding teams in not just California, but in Costa Rica, and China!

3. More Clients, More Products

We have a growing list of wonderful clients in the education, social media, and social gaming spaces—clients like Pearson, Rocketship Education and Kabam to name a few. And in 2012, we added a few new markets to our roster, including designer fashion, undiscovered talent, and financial trading. With tons of projects in the pipe and a door that’s wide open, 2013 is looking to be a great year full of endless possibilities.

In conclusion, we can use the following simple formula to forecast our future:

More Team Members + More Clients + Awesome Ideas + Sweat = Greatest 2013 Ever.
